The Maksimir stadium was officially opened on May the 5th,
1912. During 95 years since opening it was renovated
a few
times. In Autumn 1997 the seats were installed on
eastern and southern stand. The old northern stand was
demolished in the process
of last "face-lift". The new
northern stand was
rebuilt in the same spot, offering
much better comfort and capacity for the 10,965 visitors.
It also offers 15,000 square meters of space suitable
for business offices, within glass building overlooking
Maksimirska Road. Alongside renovating northern stand,
the works were carried out in eastern stand. It was all
done to comply with regulation of UEFA requiring
majority of the visitors at the stadiums to have seats
provided. In August 1999, just prior to the beginning of
second Soldiers Games, the renovation of western stand
was completed, adding another 12,600 seats and 780
in VIP area [presidential, 8 lodgers and 18 boxes].of the club.By completing all this, majority
of
Maksimir
the stadium was renovated, about 80% so that stadium capacity now days
is 37,168 seats. To add to visitor’s comforts, new seats
were installed on the stands in bluecolor.
Last faze of renovations suppose to include lowering of
the level of the ground, which would create a ring
around the playground in space of athletic track, thus
would add another 16,000 seatings. By completion of the
southern stand final capacity of stadium is going to
total to 60,000 comfortable seating places. After
finishing all works, the stadium, in Maksimir is going
to be exclusive soccer playground, alike many similar
grounds of Europe, which would enable us to tender for
hosting Euro Cup matches. Beside it all, it was planned
to establish new business offices under southern stand
which would house management of the club,
Plavi Salon [Blue Saloon]
with all the trophies and historical monuments of the
club, Dinamo's school of soccer, change rooms, coach
rooms, athletics hall and gym, first aid room,
restaurant, 46 bed luxury hotel to accommodate visiting
teams. Out of special importance is new building
connecting western and northern stands. Having this will
make us to fulfill all requirements UEFA to be able to
host First League matches and other biggest
international events (UEFA offices, press club, press
center, VIP hospitality…..). By having all this Maksimir
Stadium should measure for one of the most equipped
football giants in this part of Europe.
