Allready since the 1960's Dinamo
has been
followed by an whole army of supporters,
but the firstorganized group of sympathizers of
Dinamostartedaround 1985. The minority of the most devoted
supportersformed the group called
the
Bad Blue Boys. According to the
legend, this name was inspired by, at that time, very
popular movie "Bad Boys", with Sean Penn in major role.
In areas of Zagreb BBB groups were established, so that
during football matches, banners were displayed (BBB
Maksimir, BBB Trnovo, BBB Dubrava etc.
In the beginning
supporters were organizing journeys to away matches
Yugoslavia wide. They were remembered in Belgrade,
Sarajevo, Ljubljana, Niš, Skopje, Titograd, Split and so
on. They were traveling through the former country with
pride, holding their heads high, carrying the name of
Dinamo, Zagreb and Croatia. Quite often, unavoidable it
was necessary to end up in fight,
receive punches, all for the purpose of
expressing your devotion towards the
Club. They didn't mind it. Dinamo was
and is sacred to them.
In the beginning of 1990 BBB became a
real organized firm.
Interest was great. Everyone wanted to contribute to the
organization in his own way, Despite all enthusiasm,
supporters were confronted with various problems.
Regardless to this, they all felt closer and stronger,
which culminated on 13th of May 1990.
On that day visitors at Maksimir were Crvena Zvezda
[Red Star]
from Belgrade. On the packed stadium, teasing from the
visiting supporters [Delije], started even before the
match began. When Belgrade's hooligans broke through the
fence on the southern stand and advance to fight with a
smaller group of ordinary Dinamo fans, the northern
stand, where were Bad Blue Boys, went wild. In that
moment the fence went down and Dinamo's supporters
advanced to towards south. In the confrontation which
followed, members of then milicija
[police] mainly
being Serbs
blindly accepted the instruction from their superiors,
advance to confront the supporters of Dinamo. Many were
arrested, beaten and "marked". In defense of his
supporters came than captain of Dinamo, Zvonimir Boban.
His legendary jump on one of the members of
the milicija, significantly marked the beginning of the end of one
country. Majority of Bad Blue Boys believes that civil
war was started exactly on 13th of May 1990 – by the
football match Dinamo Zagreb vs. Crvena Zvezda that was
never played.
During the war, many supporters of Dinamo were
defending Croatian soil against the
Serbian agression, whether it was in police,
national guard or HOS. The Croatian National Guard
didn't even have its own insignia then, and the BBB
put on Dinamo badges and went off to fight, Bad Blue
Boys were all over war zones from Vukovar to Prevlaka.
Many of them never came back to their northern stand. In
honor and glory to the fallen supporters of Dinamo, in
front of western stand, the monument is erected – the
altar to the Croatian barons who had "blue" as part of
their hearts.
During the war the club was "given"
a new name, first "HAŠK
Građanski"in 1991 and later in
1993,
"Croatia
Zagreb".Every
supporter felt unjustified. The
ledendary name Dinamo is sacred
but was considered a communist name by the president
of Croatia during times of democratic revolution.
Through years BBB were boycotting
most of the matches in protest. The
civili war ended in 1995 but the Bad Blue Boys kept
fighting another war, the one against the Club's board
and the president of Croatia. I took them 7 long years
or
3156
days exactly. The
sacred name NK Dinamo Zagreb
that never dissapeared from BBB's
banners standed again
on February 14 2000.
To
this day, there were many new
generations of supporters, but Bad Blue Boys were and
stayed Dinamo's 12th player, not only in Maksimir, but
on stadiums Europe wide. They are in true meaning part
of the "legend
of Dinamo".
